As a nurse of 16 years, I have had the opportunity to work in various areas such as ICU, Recovery, Pre-Op, and Dialysis (Acute/Chronic). My passion for caring for the critically ill and love of the dialysis patient has lead me to continue my career in the Dialysis (Acute/Chronic) care setting, providing treatments to the adult and pediatric population. The decision to further my education has come with observing the disparity in primary care provided to this population. I desire to bridge the gap in care for this often forgotten and underserved community.
When reviewing the several options for online nursing programs offered today, Walden’s mission and values were more in line with what I desired. The values of quality, integrity, and student-centeredness are the cornerstone of Walden and my professional organization and my goal when delivering care to patients and their families. Walden University believes that education and social change are fundamental to the provision and maintenance of democratic ideals and principles, especially that of the common good (Walden University, 2021a). According to the Walden University College of Nursing, their program prepares students to focus their practice on the identified health needs of society, become leaders in their field through scholarship, influence the quality of patient care, manage technology and information, gain autonomy in their careers, and develop a lifelong commitment to learning (Walden University, 2021b). Nursing is an ever-changing arena, and this statement shows Walden’s commitment to ensuring graduates can meet these changes in the community.
Professional networking is crucial for career development, but it also allows an opportunity to speak with peers regarding difficulties they are facing and developments within their organization. Speaking with and sharing contact information with other nurses at professional conferences is a great way to start. According to the 5 Reasons Why Nurses Should Engage in Professional Networking A nurse’s ability to meaningfully influence an organization’s processes, and procedures can be significantly enhanced by a professional network that includes connections throughout the organization (p6).

My position is directing a team of nurses who go to the patients homes when they have an emergency; this is to avoid the patient becoming hospitalized. My mission is to make a significant impact on health by advancing science, promoting equity, demonstrating practice excellence and preparing like a leader in the discipline of a nurse practitioner (Vision, Missions, and Goals, 2021). I would like to have the intellectual capacity and transformative force in improving health through becoming nurse practitioner and think that Walden University is the right place to achieve this.
I want to meet the health needs of society in a global and multicultural world; to this end we integrate research, education and practice to build a culture of inquiry that values our collaboration and force. Nursing is a profession of great passion and sacrifice based on evidence that improves health and quality of life of individuals, families and communities around the world; nurse practitioner, then, is as construction, application and evaluation of knowledge and action within our enormous world a good action can give a smile. In nursing care we much function in an environment and collaboration. Walden University teaches us how to put into practice a model for care in global and multicultural context; with the objective of promoting health in all parts of the world by preparing nurses to respond to the needs of all societies. My goal is to learn, maintain and improve optimal health, preventing illness, improving the quality of recovery from illness, and supporting patients and their families as they face health problems
